Did you know?
...What is now known as the “Bloody Caesar” was first created in 1969 by Calgary bartender Walter Chell, who was asked to create a signature drink for the opening of a new Italian restaurant in the Calgary Inn (now the Westin Hotel).
...Chell created the concoction of clam juice, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and vodka and in a tribute to his Italian heritage, decided to call the drink the “Caesar”.
...It is said that a British man was sitting at the bar when the drink was developed and said “that’s a bloody good Caesar”...and from that moment on, it was called a Bloody Caesar.
...There are more than 350 million Bloody Caesars consumed each year in Canada, according to Mott’s Inc., who first started producing Clamato juice in 1969.
...In honour of its 40th anniversary, Mott’s has started an online petition to declare the Bloody Caesar Canada’s national cocktail.
...The Bloody Caesar seems to be known only in Canada. If you attempt to order one anywhere else in the world you are usually out of luck!
...A Virgin Caesar is a version of the classic drink, served without alcohol!
